were bouncing around Maui and a guy started chatting us up. Nick was wearing a UW shirt and the guy was asking us about Washington…..ok, so then he goes on to say that he’s got tickets to things all across the island. Intrigued, but this stuff is usually a scam. We chat with him for awhile and before you know it, he’s offering us tickets to a show and dinner for 2 for $30 – total. Hmm……I look up the show on yelp and it looks legit. We had walked by the restaurant and that also looked legit. So what’s the deal?

Well, we would have to sit through a little presentation. He explained the presentation and it seemed relatively painless. I was ready to go, but Nick kept saying we’d think about it and get back to him. The guy kept trying all his best sales moves on us – talking to us about his personal life (never married, 2 kids with 2 different moms), what he likes to do around the island…etc. Nick wouldn’t budge. So eventually we left.

When we got in the car he says to me, “B, I just don’t like being pressured that much. If it’s supposedly so awesome – why does he need such a sales pitch. And let’s be real, a guy with 2 kids from 2 different women and he’s not married to either? Not exactly a standup guy.” Fine. So I do what anyone would do, I set out to prove him wrong. After a few google searches, I learned that it was, indeed, a scam. Doh. Turns out the ticket company, Tickets on the Rock, works in conjunction or is part of Pacific Dreams. Apparently it’s a huge scam. Lesson learned. I’m not always right….it’s good for me to write that now and again.
