Subject line: Casting Hip & Smart Asians 18-30yrs

Check, check and check! (the first 2 checks are purely subjective)

I’m not going to lie. I was intrigued.

Don’t get me wrong, the first thing that popped into my head was “super creepers on craigslist praying on innocent asians.” So I did my research. The location of the call was on yelp and people had very nice things to say about it. Phew! And it was within 2 blocks of a BART stop.

I coerced my asian officemate to come with me, and together we made our way into the city. Did I mention the gig would pay $600 a day – seemed like we owed it to ourselves to try.

We showed up and filled out some paperwork. We didn’t really learn anything about the potential gig – except that it was a commercial.

While waiting our turn to audition, we met a guy. He was going to “play” our boyfriend. What? We honestly thought the audition would be us, answering questions in front of a camera. Huh.

Turns out this kid heard about the gig from his agent. Yes. His agent. He’s been on actual TV shows – as an extra. There we were, 2 girls with a couple of engineering degrees….and NO IDEA what we had gotten ourselves into.

It turned out to be relatively painless and was over in a matter of about a minute. I seriously doubt we’ll be getting called back, but it was still highly entertaining.
