I was 5, I was in my first wedding. No, no child bride weird stuff, I was a flower girl.
I was the most excited 5 year old you’ve ever met. For anyone thinking about having flower girls, this is a good age. Obedient, but still young enough to be cute. I did everything I was told. Actually, it was to my disadvantage that I was so well behaved. While we were taking group photos, the ring bearer wouldn’t sit still. Sooooo, the photographer but a quarter on the ground and told him to stand on it. If he stood on the quarter for the entire photo shoot, he’d get to keep it. What?! Where was the prize for the cute little girl that did everything she was told. When you’re 5, 25 cents is HUGE, especially in 1988 money.
Anyways, you’d have thought it was my own wedding for how excited I was. I loved every minute of it and especially all the attention. Right? Who me? I know.
I even practiced in my bedroom. I’d seen enough movies with wedding scenes. I knew how it was suppose to work. And then. I learned. I wasn’t going to get to put flowers on the aisle. My basket had a beautiful, arrangement of flowers that were stuck in the basket. No petals to gracefully spread across the aisle. Nuts! All that practice, and all I had to do was walk.
Nevertheless, it was one of my favorite childhood memories. And I remember a lot for being 5. If you have the chance, put a little girl in your wedding. It’ll make her day.
