think this will be the last “trip” related post. We definitely did more cool stuff, but I think I’ve covered the highlights. And you’re probably bored of the trip, right?
toothbrush in the communal bathroom. For 12 hrs. To be fair. It was untouched when I went back to retrieve it in the evening. People in Japan are so nice. But I was so grossed out I had to toss it immediately. Thankfully, the next hotel gave me a free replacement. It’s by far the worst toothbrush I’ve ever had to use and I swear, if I have a cavity, I’m blaming it on this trip.
In all of my (limited) travels, I’ve learned that I really enjoy western showers. They are relatively spacious and typically built in such a way that the rest of the bathroom isn’t flooded. My favorite is the bathroom with a shower head and a curtain. There’s no distinguishing “tub”. Just a curtain and a slightly slanted floor. Another funny sidenote. Several of the hotels we stayed at advertised “hot showers.” Apparently that’s not a given.
I just want a western toilet in a room with a door that closes. Is that too much to ask? I don’t want a squat toilet. I don’t want a door-less toilet. I don’t want to pay to use the toilet. I don’t want to pay to use the toilet and then have to pay more for toilet paper. I don’t want to have to worry that there will or will not be toilet paper. And I really want paper towels after I wash my hands.
So with that, our epic adventure of 2013 has come to (blog) end. Me made some amazing memories and will be talking about it for years to come.
And for those that are wondering if they can pull something like this off? Of course you can! We have never once had “buyers remorse” over a trip. We’ve had it many times after buying things – clothes, toys, etc. But never for something that creates these kind of lasting memories. Worried about money? I get it. If you’re interested in how much this cost, let me know. We did a breakdown to see what the total cost really was – we had paid for so many things as we went along, that the actual credit card bills during the trip weren’t too much higher than our normal bills – it pays to go somewhere cheap!
Here’s to new adventures in 2014! Happy Wednesday!
